Fish handling at Sea key to Quality

The Slow Food movement not only is interested in artisan food from local producers, but also in sustainability and quality. The UC Davis group has published an excellent paper on the handling of albacore tuna on the boat.

Farmers Markets to begin

The farmers market season is underway. Last week saw 500 pounds of albacore on its way to Felix Custom Smoking for processing and smoking, and Pelican Packers provided 50 cases of canned albacore for our internet site and our markets.
This Sunday, May 16th, the West Seattle Farmers Market begins at 10 AM to 2 PM. at Alaska Junction.The following weekend will see the beginning of the University Farmers Market from 9 AM to 2 PM on the cornet of 50th and University NE. I am privileged to be part of the largest farmers market in the state of Washington. See you there!
